With the passing of Labor Day yesterday and kids back to school, the unofficial end of summer has arrived.  While we may long for the long warm days to stay around a bit longer, there is much work to be done as we get back into the swing of things for the fall.

The same is true for the IMAGIN Board as we look to the annual Board Planning Session that will be occurring on Friday, September 8th at the Think Space in Lansing.   At this all-day meeting, the IMAGIN board sets forth the direction of the organization and establishes the teams and team-chairs that will help us achieve our goals for the year.  While the session is designed for the board, we NEED YOUR HELP.  What are your thoughts, concerns and ideas for the direction of IMAGIN.  We are a volunteer led and member driven organization that wants to serve the needs of GIS professionals in Michigan.  To achieve the best results we need your input and your help serving on teams.   Let us know your thoughts by emailing us at either email below.

Additionally, fall will see a new workshop presented by IMAGIN about expanding your audience by leveraging ArcGIS Online.  This workshop will help you leverage some of the new tools granted to your organization along with your ArcGIS software subscriptions.   Check out all of the details on the workshop on the website.

Embrace the changing season, join us in planning the future of IMAGIN, and expand your skills by attending the workshop.

IMAGIN is launching a new series of gatherings we are calling IMAGIN Meetups, designed simply to let GIS professionals gather at a local "watering hole" and network with fellow colleagues.  Our first gathering will be on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at five (5) different locations across the state.   Make sure to check out the Meetups page for all the details!

We held a successful Student Paper & Poster Competition on April 5th in conjunction with the State of Michigan GIS Users Group Meeting.   If you have not had an opportunity to see the work by students that is coming from Michigan Colleges and Universities, you need to make plans to attend for 2017.   The work is phenomenal.

With May fast approaching, it is now time to focus on the 25th Annual Conference.  The conference is only about 1 month away... have you registered yet?   We have 35 breakout education sessions, three afternoon working sessions, keynote speakers, vendors, social networking events and more.  Make sure you check out the details on the Conference Page, and once you have seen the details, REGISTER TODAY

Spring is a very busy time for IMAGIN, with the two biggest events of our year happening.

First, on April 5th, we will be hosting the IMAGIN Student Paper & Poster Competition.  This event packed day showcases the amazing work being done in the geospatial technology fields by students, both undergraduate and graduate level, across the state of Michigan.  If you can attend, support the students and see the incredible work being performed, you will be amazed.  See all the details on the SPPC page.

The second event will be the 25th annual IMAGIN Conference.  Starting with social events on Sunday, May 15th and continuing through Tuesday the 17th with engaging keynote speakers, education sessions, vendor socials, and plenty of networking time with your collegues, you are sure to increase both your GIS knowledge base and your network of fellow GIS professionals.   And if that is not enough for you, you can extend your stay at the Great Wolf lodge for two more nights and take a 2 day Esri instructor-led course called Image Analysis with ArcGIS.   Check out all of the conference information on the IMAGIN Conference page.

IMAGIN is working on a new website!  As part of IMAGIN's new database software, Wild Apricot, we are provided a new website and content management software.  This will allow additional volunteers to assist with the website content management, which means that will give IMAGIN's current website manager some help.   If you are interested in helping, let me know.
